Chiranjeevee Pokhrel for DCnepal, August 27, 2016 - Rape charge filed against state minister Muhammad Irshad Qureshi and SDM in UP. A woman filed rape charge against state minister Muhammad Irshad Qureshi and an SDM in UP.

Senior SP leader Irshaad Qureshi, who enjoys a minister-rank status in the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh, has been accused of attempting to rape and abusing a Dalit woman in an FIR lodged on Thursday. Besides Qureshi, two others, including Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Sadar, Jeetendra Kumar, have been enlisted in the charge. The case has been registered almost two-and-a-half-years after the incident.

The trio has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and the SC/ST Act. According to the FIR, Qureshi, SDM SadarJeetendra Kumar Srivastava and one Ibrahim allegedly attempted to rape the complainant on March 19, 2014 at the thime while she was sleeping with daughter at her house in Khanpur, Auraiya.

The complaint claimed that the victim’s husband, who was in jail at that time as he was allegedly framed under false charges by the minister and SDM, asked her to file an FIR.Her husband was later released and since then, the couple has been meeting senior officials for justice, said the victim.

Chaudhary Ramesh Singh, Circle officer, Auraiya city, who is the Investigating Officer in the case, said the FIR was lodged on August 25 on the orders of Kanpur Divisional Commissioner.

“As per the SDM, the woman’s husband was arrested during the election of 2014 for indulging in unwanted activities. We are investigating the matter. No arrests have been made so far,” said the Commissioner.
