Home Minister Nidhi visits Ghimire’s accident site in Chitwan

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimelandra Nidhi on Tuesday visited the accident site in Chitwan where former Home Minister and Finance Minister Madhav Ghimire went missing in the Trishuli river along with his two brothers since Sunday.

Talking to media persons at the accident site in Ghoptevir at Dahrechok-3, Minister Nidhi expressed sadness over the incident and said the government would leave no stone unturned in its search.

After taking stock of the accident site, the Home Minister directed the security personnel involved in the search operation to expedite the search day and night. He said the government has become serious as the former Home Minister was caught in the accident.

Minister Nidhi is accompained by Secretary at Home Ministry Lok Darshan Regmi, Chief of Law and Order Division at the Home Ministry Bal Krishna Panthi, Inspector General of Nepal Police Upendra Kanta  Aryal, Armed Police Force IGP Durja Kumar Rai and National Investigation Department Chief Dilip Regmi.



Saying that the security personnel has been using sophisticated sonar technology involved in the search operation, Minister Nidhi said the government is ready import other equipments from foreign country if needed.

Following the inspection of accident site at Ghoptevir, the Home Minister’s team headed towards the Triveni (confluence of three rivers) of Nawalparasi at Nepal-India border.

Around 500 security personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force (APF) have been carrying out search operation since Sunday.

A jeep carrying former Home Minister Ghimire and his family members plunged into the Trishuli river on Sunday while they were returning home after performing after performing a shraddha—an annual commemorative ceremony in honour of the deceased ancestors—in Kagbeni of Mustang. There were seven people on board the jeep.

Bodies of three people including Ghimire's mother have been retrieved, while Ghimire and his two brothers have gone missing. The driver of the accident has been critically injured.

The Kathmandu-bound jeep had veered off the road and plunged into the river at Dahrechok-3 in Chitwan district on Sunday evening.

The Home Minister’s team will return to Kathmandu later today after observing the Academy of Junior Police Officers in Bharatpur.
